Our son Karl was extensively brain damaged in a car accident in December of
1996 and he died in May of 2001.
When Karl had the accident I, Ian, was working for a dog grooming parlour. One
day I asked the owner about a cat with a very bushy tail like a squirrel which
we had seen on television. She told me it was probably a Norwegian Forest cat,
which I had never heard of before, and that she was breeding with them in
conjunction with a friend of hers. She told me that these cats love to talk and
interact with their owners. We started talking about Karl, whom she had known
as a young boy, and the therapeutic benefit of having a cat like this in our
house. She discussed this with her friend Lara (Ratatosk Cattery) and they
decided to look for a suitable cat for him.
So entered our first Norwegian into the house, Joanie Blue, who changed our lives so much with her antics and games. Unfortunately, Joanie has also died, December of 2001, after having her litter and sadly we were not able to save any of her kittens.
Our second Norwegian was Serendipity, who is the mother of our queen "Valkyrie" and grandmother to our queen "Lady Tabitha". All three have now been retired from breeding. Serendipity lives in a wonderful home in Stellenbosch with Rosemarie and Hans Breuer who call her Ylva and love her to bits. Her grandson, Vilhelm, joined her there and is now called Svarthövte.

In 2005 we started to breed with the similar, but slightly larger Maine Coon and imported several cats from Germany and catteries in Johannesburg.
In 2007 we started to breed with the Russian Siberian Cat and imported 2 females from Canada.
To finish off, all we can say is our home would not be the same without our cats and we feel privileged and blessed to be able to breed with these beautiful creatures.
